Athletes’ House Breaks Ground To Strengthen Paraguay’s Sporting Infrastructure

In February 2026, Paraguay took a symbolic step towards strengthening its athletic development with the official groundbreaking of the Athletes’ House. The ceremony took place at the National Secretariat of Sports (SND) Complex in Asunción. Authorities described the project as a milestone for national athletics and a long-term investment in young talent. The future building will combine accommodation, training spaces, and athlete support services in one modern facility.

Modern infrastructure inside the SND Complex

The building will feature three floors divided into two wings, located within the athletics area of the SND Complex. It will include a high-level gym designed specifically for athlete training. A physiotherapy area will also be available to support recovery and physical preparation.

Accommodation will be provided for athletes travelling from distant regions of Paraguay. This will allow them to stay in the capital during training periods and competitions. A social and relaxation area is also planned, including a terrace overlooking the athletics track. The project also includes administrative offices for the Paraguayan Athletics Federation. This addition aims to improve organisation and coordination within the institution.

The Athletes’ House will work alongside the Deportista Róga Hotel, located on the same grounds and operating for around ten years. That facility has hosted athletes, coaches, and referees, and regularly serves as a venue for major sporting announcements. Together, both spaces are expected to strengthen Paraguay’s support system for its sporting community.

Athletes’ House project focused on opportunity

Minister of Sports César Ramírez Caje attended the groundbreaking ceremony and highlighted the deeper meaning behind the project. He said the Athletes’ House represents more than infrastructure and will become a place where dreams take shape. According to Ramírez, the goal is to consolidate the SND as the true home of Paraguayan sport.

The initiative is led by the National Secretariat of Sports together with the Paraguayan Athletics Federation. The building aims to improve conditions for athletes who travel to the capital to train and compete. Officials believe the project will contribute to equal opportunities and boost high-performance sport nationwide.

Gerardo Acosta, president of the Paraguayan Athletics Federation, delivered the project’s technical presentation. He described the infrastructure as one of the most important developments for athletics in the country. Acosta explained that it will support young athletes as they begin their careers and help shape future sporting achievements.
