Paraguay Officially Announces Its Bid For The World Skate Games 2026

The Minister of Sports, César Ramírez and the president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez, announced the Paraguayan candidacy for the World Skate Games 2026. The application dossier has already been sent to World Skate, the international parent company of the discipline, which will analyse the Paraguayan candidacy.

During the announcement video, the head of the sports portfolio, César Ramírez, said that for Paraguay, the World Skate Games 2026 are not just another event, but rather become an opportunity to strengthen the country’s image through sport and tourism, in addition to generating an important social and economic impact for the country.

“This is also an opportunity to demonstrate, as a nation, that we are prepared to host large-scale events, while at the same time encouraging and motivating new generations to join the sport,” said Ramírez.

For his part, Camilo Pérez highlighted that the National Secretariat of Sports and the Olympic Committee, together decided to present the candidacy of Asunción-Paraguay for the World Skate Games 2026.

“Once again, we are promoting a great national sports project that confirms the joint work between the COP and the SND, with a great effort from the Government of Paraguay for the entire Paraguayan society.”

Why hosting the World Skate Games 2026 would be great for Paraguay

Lorena Veiluva, president of the Paraguayan Skating Confederation, explained that “the World Skates Games 2026 will be a unique opportunity for Paraguay. 10,000 athletes and officials will compete in 13 disciplines and 23 modalities. The event will allow us to promote the training of athletes and give visibility to our efforts at an international level.”

“At the World Skates Games 2026 we will be able to demonstrate Paraguayan talent and build a legacy for national skating” concluded Veiluva.

The World Skate Games (formerly World Roller Games) are a biennial international multi-sport event comprising all global roller sport disciplines regulated by the International World Skate Federation. The Games involve 11 World Championships in a multi-sport event.

It is worth remembering that the Ueno SND Arena, the main sports centre at the National Sports Secretariat, has already hosted two important sporting events in the official World Skate competition calendar, having hosted the World Figure Skating Championships in 2021 and the International Artistic Series in 2023.
