Safe Summer 2026: Paraguay Deploys Major River Security Operation Ahead Of Peak Season

The Paraguayan Navy officially launched the Safe Summer 2026 campaign, announcing a large-scale security operation. The campaign is aimed at protecting visitors across the country’s main rivers and recreational areas during the summer season. The initiative, led by the Navy and the Naval Prefecture, will involve hundreds of personnel, advanced surveillance technology, and coordinated prevention efforts nationwide.

A nationwide summer safety strategy

The campaign will deploy around 500 military personnel. Including rescue teams, paramedics, and divers, supported by 30 vessels and drone surveillance units. Operations will focus on high-traffic waterways and popular holiday destinations. Particularly during the peak summer months, when river activity increases significantly.

Authorities confirmed that personnel will be stationed at all Naval Prefecture posts along the Paraguay and Paraná rivers. Additional monitoring will take place at Lake Ypacaraí, the beaches of Encarnación, Hernandarias, Asunción Bay, and other high-use recreational areas.

Technology, prevention, and public awareness

Beyond physical patrols, the Safe Summer 2026 campaign places strong emphasis on prevention and public awareness. According to Defence Minister Óscar González, educational actions aimed at young people will be a key component of the strategy. Authorities will use drone technology and other monitoring tools to improve response times and strengthen surveillance across extensive river zones.

Authorities also issued safety recommendations for the public to prevent accidents. The Paraguayan Navy official Facebook page advised against entering the water after drinking alcohol, accessing unauthorised beaches, or crossing established safety limits. Other recommendations included avoiding diving in unknown areas, ensuring children are accompanied by an adult, not overloading boats, and always wearing life jackets. Moreover, checking the weather forecast before setting out.

The Paraguayan Navy urged citizens and visitors to respect safety regulations and follow instructions from river authorities. Officials stressed that public cooperation is essential to ensuring a safe and incident-free summer season.
