New Book Captures Central Bank of Paraguay’s History Through Its Presidents’ Voices

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña led the official launch ceremony of the book “From the Process of Strengthening Economic Institutions to Investment Grade: The BCP’s Role through the Eyes of its Presidents.” This work offers a comprehensive look at the Central Bank of Paraguay’s history.

Central Bank of Paraguay’s history

Carlos Carvalho, current President of the Central Bank of Paraguay (Banco Central del Paraguao, or BCP) spoke at the book launch. He explained the book’s key objective, which aims to recover the memory of the country’s institutional strengthening process. This includes consolidating macroeconomic stability. The book also covers Paraguay’s recent Investment Grade status, which Moody’s awarded to Paraguay. The publication was described as a pivotal document, detailing the BCP’s successful track record.

Six former presidents of the Central Bank like Hermes Gomez, Raúl Vera, and Angel Gabriel González contributed. Germán Rojas, Jorge Corvalán, and Carlos Fernández Valdovinos also contributed. The current President Carlos Carvalho and Board Member Miguel Mora were involved as well. The book about Central Bank of Paraguay’s history features a foreword by President Santiago Peña.

“It is a first-hand, sequential account that shows the path we have travelled,” Carvalho stated. “Each individual built upon the legacy of their predecessors.” He adds: “This book captures essential recent economic history. It narrates the very history of the Central Bank in doing so.”

A future built on stability

President Peña highlighted the book’s importance as it constitutes a lasting legacy. The book, said the President, prevents the loss of this institutional memory. The publication also underscores the BCP’s role, which acts as the “vigilant guardian of economic stability.”

He expressed a strong wish for the Central Bank of Paraguay’s history book. “This is a testimony of our history, present, and future,” he stated. “It should also be a tool for everyone. They should go out and communicate and champion stability’s importance. A country progresses when society can aspire to a common dream.”

“That is our objective. We want Paraguayans to embrace this cause. This will position the country as one of the most developed ones. This applies to the Americas, and the world.”
