Paraguay’s rapidly expanding forestry sector continues to set historic export records. With rising ambition to position this industry as a pillar of national economic prosperity, there is an increasing emphasis on sustainability and collaborative development. The upcoming Expo Madera 2025, organised by the Paraguayan Federation of Timber Producers (FEPAMA) in partnership with Balcony in September 2025, reflects this progressive approach. The event will spotlight innovation, sustainability, and the strategic growth of the forestry sector.
In parallel, the National Forestry Institute (INFONA) is aligning its agenda with this momentum in September through the National Forestry Policy. They will host of the First Paraguayan Forestry Congress (ICFP).
Expo Madera 2025
Expo Madera is Paraguay’s premier trade fair for the forestry and timber sector. The event 5th edition will be held from September 12 to 14 at the Centro Cultural del Puerto de Asunción.
A key theme of the 2025 edition is to emphasise that the majority of wood produced and exported by Paraguay originates from cultivated forests. The expo aims to serve as a vital platform for commercial, technical, and cultural exchange. The goal is to strengthen Paraguay’s position as a regional leader in sustainable forestry.
The event will bring together timber companies, suppliers, artisans, public institutions, and industry leaders. Delegations from Chile, Argentina, and Brazil will participate, reflecting its international relevance.
Expo Madera 2025 will feature more than 60 stands, showcasing a wide range of products and services. Furthermore, it will display technologies related to forestry production, industrial processing, and sustainable wood marketing. Additionally, the event will offer a full programme of technical talks, panel discussions, and conferences. The talks will cover topics such as forest certification, carbon markets, and green financing.
The expo is supported by key institutions, including the National Secretariat of Culture, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, and the National Navigation and Ports Administration.

National Forestry Policy
The forestry sector is becoming a potential driver of economic growth in Paraguay. In May 2025, plywood exports reached a record high for the third consecutive month, totaling 2,925 tons, a 6.15% increase from the previous month, and surpassing the five-year average by over 45%. In this context, INFONA seeks to develop the “National Forestry Policy – Paraguay Forestry: Development for a More Sustainable Future.”
The primary aim of the policy is to promote sustainable development within the forestry sector by integrating innovative and technologically advanced practices. These practices intend to maximise forest productivity, generate added value, and enhance competitiveness in both national and international markets.
The policy seeks to achieve this by emphasising the conservation and responsible management of forest resources. The aim is also the protection of ecosystems, and the strengthening of technical and operational capacities. The inclusion of local and indigenous communities in forestry development is part of the policy emphasis. This approach is designed to ensure long-term economic, social, and environmental benefits.
INFONA has proposed a collaborative process for policy development, encouraging citizens to contribute their perspectives and help shape the future of Paraguay’s forestry sector. A draft of the National Forestry Policy, along with a participation form, is available on their website.
