Paraguay’s Yellow Firefighters Launch 25th Annual Fundraiser To Save Lives

The Paraguayan Volunteer Fire Brigade (CBVP), widely recognised for its distinctive yellow uniforms, has launched its 25th annual fundraising campaign. This initiative aims to raise Gs. 3.5 billion (approximately US$500,000) for essential emergency equipment, and daily operational expenses. The funds collected are crucial, as around 60% of the CBVP’s budget relies directly on community contributions.

The yellow firefighters’ fundraising occurs once each year and represents a major event for communities across Paraguay. For 2025, the campaign will continue until Sunday, 12 October, giving residents the opportunity to collaborate over days. Throughout this period, volunteers will be highly visible in the streets, actively requesting public support to reach the ambitious target.

“Together we can do more”

The CBVP is currently working in fifteen departments of Paraguay and operates stations in roughly 140 different districts. Their slogan for the 2025 campaign: “Together we can do more”, highlighting the spirit of cooperation driving their service.

According to Lorena Canan, CBVP’s current president, uniting efforts ensures the firefighters can consistently deliver high-quality service when most required. Canan emphasised that adequate tools and resources are vital for safeguarding lives, particularly during emergencies such as fires and accidents.

CBVP’s first female commander

She praised the dedication of firefighters nationwide, expressing her confidence that citizens’ collaboration would help achieve the financial target. The captain general, who recently made history this 2025 as the CBVP’s first female commander, after more than 47 years of exclusively male leadership, has inspired both volunteers and the wider Paraguayan community.

She stated feeling empowered when witnessing the tireless commitment of firefighters and stations investing energy in this national collection. This symbolic milestone demonstrates not only institutional progress, but also the growing visibility of women in leadership within public service.
