Women mentorship

Third Edition Of The Women Leaders Initiative Launched

With the intention of enhancing the influence and visibility of women within Paraguay’s public sector, the third edition of the Women Leaders Mentorship Programme has officially commenced. This effort seeks to narrow the gender gap in public administration by encouraging the exchange of knowledge, and experience between different generations of female public servants.

The programme has now become a key element of institutional policy focused on promoting women’s empowerment. It provides a platform where professional growth is supported through dialogue, collaboration, and targeted mentoring.

Thirty newly formed mentor-mentee pairs

The programme connects university-educated young professionals, aged 25 to 35, with experienced female leaders who currently hold or have previously held strategic positions within the State. This structure facilitates meaningful professional development and fosters lasting networks within the public sector.

Over the course of the next two months, thirty newly formed mentor-mentee pairs will engage in a personalised guidance process. These sessions, conducted either in person or virtually, will address essential topics such as workplace challenges, strategic decision-making, leadership through a gender perspective, and career development planning.

Fostering growth through woman mentorship

At the heart of the initiative lies a strong emphasis on woman mentorship. Providing emerging professionals with the tools, confidence, and insight to navigate complex career paths. By learning directly from seasoned leaders, mentees gain access to institutional knowledge and a support system that reinforces their leadership potential.

This mentorship model not only enhances individual growth. It also contributes to a more inclusive and representative public sector. Through each mentorship relationship, the programme aims to amplify the voices of women. And to increase their participation in shaping public policy and governance.

A collaborative launch in Asunción

The inaugural session and official launch event were held at CAF’s Integration House in Asunción. This initiative has been made possible through a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Office of the First Lady, and CAF, the Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Key representatives from the organising institutions were present, including Alicia Pomata, Minister Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, and Jorge Srur, Regional Manager for the Southern Cone at CAF.

Both figures underlined the importance of the initiative. Ms. Pomata emphasised that empowering women is essential not only for the advancement of communities, but also for strengthening the quality of public service.

In turn, Mr. Srur highlighted the growing presence of Paraguayan women in multilateral organisations. And the positive impact of their involvement in decision-making roles.

A continued commitment to gender equity

Through the Women Leaders Programme, Paraguay reaffirms its commitment to the professional advancement of women in public life. The programme’s ongoing success reflects a national vision where leadership is inclusive, and mentorship is transformative. And that every woman’s voice can contribute to shaping the future of public service.

This vision is also evident in the new network of women’s secretariats created to promote rights at the Municipal level.
