To protect drivers, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) has implemented temporary speedbumps at specific points along Mariscal López Avenue. They will be leveled once the final asphalt layer is laid as part of the construction process.
“There are inspection manholes along the avenue, the level of which is now final. These temporary humps are necessary because if we don’t implement them, a five-centimeter-high concrete slab would remain, damaging vehicle tires and wheels,” explained René Peralbo, Director of Highways at the MOPC.
The engineer stated that these mounds are temporary and will be leveled once the final asphalt layer is laid as part of the construction process.
New section of Mariscal López Avenue opened
The MOPC has also recently opened a 500-meter stretch of Mariscal López Avenue over the weekend, from the San Lorenzo stream to the entrance of the National University of Asunción (UNA), which was closed for culvert installation work, with the aim of facilitating traffic, especially for access to the campus and the University City.
This new traffic configuration – from Asunción to San Lorenzo – allows the construction front to move to the other lane heading toward the capital. To ensure an orderly flow, flagmen are on site to regulate traffic and ensure safe pedestrian crossings.
While the works progress, the Ministry, in coordination with the Highway Patrol and the San Lorenzo Traffic Department, is implementing measures to reduce congestion in the area. Thanks to these actions, traffic flow has improved at the entrance to San Lorenzo.
Regarding the detours, they will remain in effect until the completion of the construction work on the sections already open and in progress. Subsequently, new alternative routes will be implemented in the vicinity of the Hospital de Clínicas to optimize traffic flow.
