From 23 to 26 October 2025, the National Sports Secretariat (El Centro Nacional de Entrenamiento de Judo, or SND) in Asunción will host the South American Judo Tour, bringing together the continent’s most skilled judokas for a week of fiercely contested competitions. The event will feature athletes competing across Cadet, Youth, Junior, and Senior categories, showcasing the depth of talent in this Olympic sport.
South American Judo Tour: Four days of intense combat
The National Judo Training Center, located in Pavilion 1 of the SND Complex in Paraguay’s capital, will serve as the stage for four days of intense combat and thrilling displays of skill. Organised by the Paraguayan Judo Federation, the South American Judo Championship promises to be a highlight of the regional sporting calendar, drawing competitors from across the continent.The schedule of events is as follows:
- South American Cadet Under-18 Championship: Thursday, 23 October.
- South American Junior Under-21 Championship: Friday, 24 October.
- South American Senior Championship: Saturday, 25 October.
- South American U13 Youth Championship: Sunday, 26 October.
- South American U15 Youth Championship: Sunday, 26 October.
This South American Judo Tour championship will not only celebrate the prowess of South America’s judokas, but also underscore Paraguay’s growing prominence as a host for major international sporting events. Earlier in 2025, the country hosted the World Rally Championship, and the ASU 2025 Junior Pan American Games. Spectators and enthusiasts are expected to fill the venue, eager to witness the continent’s rising stars and seasoned athletes compete for glory.
National School and Student Games champions
Earlier this month, the high school judoka’s took to the mat at the SND Complex to demonstrate their skills at the National School and Student Games. After several exciting and adrenaline-filled bouts, the sport revealed its national champions in the various categories available for the intercollegiate competition. Paraguay’s most important intercollegiate tournament determined the Guaraní representatives for the upcoming ASU 2025 South American School Games.
The judokas who were crowned champions at the 2025 National School and Student Games, and will compete at the continental level in the men’s category, are Ivo Villasanti (-40 kg), Daniel Medina (-44 kg), Alexander Núñez (-53 kg), Esteban Bordón (-58 kg), and José Jesús Brítez (+64 kg). Likewise, the winning girls were Sofía Santagiuliana (-53 kg), Dana Argüello (-64 kg), and Alisha López (+64 kg).
