Mariscal López Avenue Makeover Continues: New Asphalt Paving Began

Resurfacing works on Mariscal López Avenue began, laying the new asphalt pavement. The project, overseen by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), is focussing on a 1,200-metre stretch from Hospital de Clínicas in the direction of Asunción. It is the next phase in the Mariscal López Avenue makeover. The works are expected to continue until Saturday, 30 August, 2025, weather permitting.

To minimise traffic disruption, the MOPC will implement a phased approach. During the morning peak hours, traffic will flow normally on both carriageways. Subsequently, one carriageway will be closed while the opposing carriageway operates as a two-way road. The process will be reversed in the afternoon.

This strategy mirrors the successful methodology employed during previous resurfacing between Víctor Cáceres Street and the Pinedo Shopping Centre access road. This earlier project received positive feedback regarding both the quality of the work and the efficient traffic management.

Project timeline, and recommendations for drivers

The MOPC will work in sections, with each completed area reopened on the same day, ensuring the project is completed quickly and efficiently.

The MOPC advises drivers to plan alternative routes, adhere to temporary signage, and exercise caution in work zones. The Patrulla Caminera (Highway Patrol) will be present to support traffic control. The MOPC also recommends considering alternative travel times.

The institution expresses its gratitude for public understanding and cooperation during these road improvement works, highlighting the resulting benefits for all users of this major metropolitan artery.

Recent other developments

Earlier this August, speed bump construction at the intersection of Mariscal López Avenue and Waldino Ramón Lovera Street in Asunción began. Recent developments include infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving traffic flow, such as road resurfacing, drainage system enhancements to mitigate flooding. And pavement repairs to reduce potholes, which are notorious challenges during heavy rains.

Recently in San Lorenzo, near Asunción, Mariscal López Avenue sprang back to life with smoother traffic flow after the reopening of a key stretch from the San Lorenzo bike path (Yberá area) to Víctor Cáceres Street.
