Paraguay Launches Pact For Chacarita To Protect Historic Asunción Neighbourhood

Paraguayan public institutions, private sector entities, and community organisations presented the Pact For Chacarita in the area of Punta Karapã, part of the Dr. Ricardo Brugada neighbourhood of Asunción. This initiative aims to strengthen the cultural and community development of the neighbourhood.

The Pact For Chacarita establishes a cooperation agreement to protect the neighbourhood’s heritage, and strengthen its identity. Furthermore, the agreement aims to boost the creative economy and develop cultural and educational activities. All, done with the participation of its residents.

Highlight the legacy of the Guarania

The launch took place within the framework of the first UNESCO Guarania Tour, a route that expands the “Chacatours Guarania – José Asunción Flores and his neighbourhood” project. The initiative connects memory, music, and territory, and has attracted a growing number of participants. The aim is helping to highlight the legacy of the Guarania musical genre as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity and its deep roots in Chacarita.

The project has the participation of the UNESCO, the organisation behind the “Pact For Culture 2030.” This UN structure is a framework for cultural cooperation adopted in Latin American countries to promote sustainable development, social cohesion. Additionally, to strengthen identity through culture. In Paraguay, the National Secretariat of Culture (SNC), the Municipality of Asunción and the Itaú Foundation are participating.

Furthermore, the Arturo Pereira Foundation, and the Neighborhood Commissions and Institutions of Chacarita (COSIC) in the Brugada neighbourhood are participating.
