Asunción To Host 2026 Annual Meetings Of The Inter-American Development Bank

The Inter-American Development Bank Group (IDB Group) announced that Asunción will host its Annual Meetings from 11 to 14 March 2026. The event will position Paraguay as a regional hub for economic dialogue and international cooperation. The confirmation followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Paraguayan Minister of Economy and Finance Carlos Fernández Valdovinos, and IDB President Ilan Goldfajn.

The event will bring together leaders from 48 member countries, alongside private sector representatives and civil society organisations. The meeting is held to discuss key economic and social challenges facing Latin America and the Caribbean.

A strategic opportunity for Paraguay

The 2026 edition will mark the 66th Annual Meeting of the IDB Board of Governors and the 40th IDB Invest, the highest decision-making bodies within both institutions. The assemblies will be attended by ministers of economy, finance, and other senior policymakers, who will discuss the region’s most pressing economic priorities.

In addition to the main sessions, the event will feature a Business Investment Forum that promotes collaboration among business leaders, investors, and public officials. Other key activities include a meeting with civil society representatives and a series of seminars exploring regional integration, support for vulnerable communities, and the strategic use of critical minerals.

Focus on private sector growth and innovation

The IDB Group is the region’s leading source of development finance and expertise. The organization consists of three main entities: The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), which supports public sector projects while also promoting private initiatives. IDB Invest, which directly funds and partners with private enterprises across the region. And lastly, IDB Lab, which fosters entrepreneurial innovation and technological development.

The main theme for the 2026 meetings will centre on accelerating growth and development through private sector participation. This focus reflects the IDB Group’s goal to amplify impact and scale through innovative partnerships, investments, and solutions. These meetings will serve as a platform for governments, investors, and development specialists to identify new ways to boost productivity, sustainability, and social inclusion across the region.

Registration and participation details

Participation in the Annual Meetings is by invitation only. Institutions interested in receiving an invitation should fill out the registration form available through IDB official event website. There is no cost to register, but participants are responsible for their own travel, lodging, and related expenses. The deadline to request an invitation is 25 February 2026.

Hosting the IDB Annual Meetings will position Paraguay as a focal point for regional dialogue and cooperation.
