The new Paraguayan Ambassador to the United States, Gustavo Leite, presented his credentials to President Donald Trump. Following the ceremony in Washington D.C., Ambassador Leite delivered a message from the Paraguayan Government. This message highlighted the need to strengthen the strategic alliance between the two countries.
The ambassador emphasised a bilateral agenda focused on the prosperity of citizens and entrepreneurs in both Paraguay and the United States.
When a new ambassador presents credentials to the U.S. President, they formally submit a letter of credence, affirming their diplomatic role and authority to represent their country. This ceremonial event, typically held at the White House, marks the official start of their diplomatic mission.
Focus on educational and economic cooperation
During his swearing-in ceremony in Paraguay, Leite outlined his diplomatic priorities. These included increased cooperation in education, science, and technology. He specifically aimed to triple the number of Paraguayan students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the United States. Just recently, the National Scholarship Programme “Carlos Antonio López” (Becal), under the Paraguayan Ministry of Economy and Finances, has opened applications for its undergraduate international exchange programme in Kansas, United States.
Furthermore, Leite stressed the importance of attracting greater US investment in Paraguay. He also advocated for expanding bilateral trade and enhancing cooperation in defence and security. Strengthening democratic and republican values, and fostering a shared vision in foreign policy, were also key objectives.
