Argentine President Javier Milei To Visit Paraguay In Mid-September

Argentine President Javier Milei will make an official visit to Paraguay in mid-September, lasting two days, according to the Argentine ambassador to Paraguay, Guillermo Nielsen. The ambassador revealed this following a meeting with the President of the Paraguayan National Congress, Basilio Núñez.

The visit, scheduled for the 15 and 16 September, 2025, underscores the importance Milei places on bilateral relations with Paraguay, and his working relationship with Paraguayan President Santiago Peña.

Strong bilateral ties highlighted

Ambassador Nielsen emphasised the excellent rapport between Paraguayan and Argentine authorities. He highlighted the significance of the meeting with the Paraguayan Congress President, further indicating a strong and positive relationship between the two nations.

This will be Milei’s second visit to Paraguay this year, following a previous trip in April, 2025. During his April visit to Asunción, Milei expressed his commitment to building a stronger bilateral relationship, with the potential to expand the positive cooperation to the wider region.

“I can affirm that both President Peña and I know that the path to prosperity is none other than regulation and fiscal surpluses,” President Milei stated back then during his visit to Paraguay. “That good is achieved through the ideas of freedom, and not through the idea of social justice, which is the forced redistribution of wealth that collectivists rely on.”

With this shared value, both presidents are building a bilateral relationship that brings both countries closer together and will eventually extend to the rest of the region, he added. Recently Paraguay solidified its position as one of Latin America’s most financially stable nations, achieving the fourth-lowest country risk rating in the region.

Four previous meetings between the leaders

In April, 2025, was the first time Milei visited the Paraguayan capital in his capacity as Argentine president, but it was the fourth meeting between the two leaders. The first meeting took place on February 14, 2024, at the Casa Rosada in Argentina, and the second took place in the city of Mar del Plata, during the IDEA Colloquium. The third meeting took place again at the Casa Rosada , in March 2024.

Focus on bilateral relations

The Argentine President’s upcoming visit will focus on strengthening bilateral ties between Argentina and Paraguay. The two-day schedule suggests a significant amount of planned meetings and discussions aimed at fostering closer collaboration between both countries. Observers anticipate a range of discussions touching on key areas of mutual interest such as trade, economics, and regional cooperation.
