Paraguayan scientist Alejandro Román was designated Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London (ICL). Román is also Managing Director at the Paraguayan Space Agency. The researcher works within the Imperial Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the college. ICL is one of the most prestigious institutions in the world, ranking second in the QS World University Rankings 2026.
The title was granted by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Recognition of this kind for his work is a huge achievement in the academic world. Titles like these are reserved for professionals with high-level academic journeys that contribute to research, academics, and interinstitutional cooperation. All this without maintaining a relationship of employment with the institution.
“I am humbled and honoured to share that I have been accepted as an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at Imperial College London,” says the scientist. Alejandro Román highlights that this recognition represents “a goal of a lifetime and a professional dream come true”.
One of the world’s most prestigious universities
According to QS World University Rankings 2025/2026, ICL ranks second at world level, and number one in the United Kingdom. This prestigious title from a high-ranking institution makes this achievement even more relevant to the Paraguayan scientific community.
The scientist gave special thanks to the support of Dr. Washington Yotto Ochieng, Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the college. Alejandro Román also thanks the faculty and staff of Imperial College London. The evaluation and designation process lasted over two years.

Finally, the researcher stated his commitment to actively contributing to the ICL community. He aims to contribute to research and strengthen international collaboration. He will explore joint work areas that generate academic impact and concrete benefits for Paraguay. Additionally, Román reinforces the country’s position in the international scientific and technological field.
