Central Hospital Reports Calm New Year In Asunción With Zero Fireworks Injuries

The Central Hospital of the Social Security Institute (Hospital Central del Instituto de Previsión Social) in Asunción reports a calm and routine period across its emergency departments during the transition from 2025 to 2026, with patient numbers remaining within expected levels, and zero fireworks injuries.

Between 31 December 2025 and 1 January 2026, the hospital in Paraguay’s capital recorded a total of 190 emergency consultations. Of these, 92 occurred on 31 December 2025, and 98 on 1 January 2026. The majority – 121 cases – were classified as Code 16, indicating predominantly low- and medium-complexity issues.

Urgency levels, and common reasons for visits

In terms of urgency classification, only two red code cases were registered, both on 31 December. There were 12 orange code cases, 69 yellow, and 10 green, reflecting a notably low incidence of critical emergencies. The busiest emergency services during this period were General Surgery, which handled 29 visits, followed by Respiratory with 17.

Otolaryngology and Traumatology each saw five consultations, while Gynaecology recorded four. Notably, no ophthalmological consultations were required.

On 31 December, the most frequent complaints were body pain, headache, and diarrhoea. On 1 January, presentations shifted slightly, with fever, body pain, and respiratory conditions predominating.

Paediatric emergencies

In paediatric emergencies, 39 consultations were managed in the final 24 hours of 1 January, primarily for acute respiratory conditions (RAC). Of these, 90% were related to gastroenteritis and 10% to respiratory issues.

Ten patients required admission, with nine transferred to wards. Only one patient remained in the emergency department, diagnosed with epilepsy. Several minor polytrauma cases were treated, all without complications.

Zero fireworks injuries

The hospital confirmed zero injuries caused by fireworks among insured individuals. No cases involving fireworks were recorded in either adult or paediatric patients throughout the end-of-year and New Year’s celebrations.

The Social Security Institute’s Central Hospital commended the dedication of its healthcare personnel, noting that emergency services operated normally.
