Paraguay’s beef industry is booming! The National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENACSA) reports that over US$1,056,135,495 worth of beef exports were recorded in the first six months of 2025. That is a whopping 37% increase compared to the same period last year. One year ago tariffs on pork exports to Taiwan were completely eliminated.
Record-breaking figures for beef exports
This incredible achievement marks the highest half-yearly revenue ever recorded in Paraguay. It is nearly double the average earnings before 2020, which usually hovered around US$500 million per six-month period. The volume of beef exports has also enjoyed continuous growth.
Compared to last year’s figures, this first half of the year saw a 17.5% jump in the amount of beef sent abroad. One of the key drivers of this growth is Taiwan.
A booming market
As of the end of June, Taiwan has secured its position as the second most important market for Paraguayan beef. Purchasing over 25 million kilos, their contribution has totalled a remarkable value of over US$151 million. Of course, Paraguay’s neighbours in Chile remain the country’s top market.
Chile continues to be the principal destination for Paraguayan beef, having purchased over 57 million kilos. This wonderful partnership brought in over US$343 million in the last six months alone.
Other significant markets for Paraguayan beef include the United States, with 19.8 million kilos exported; Israel, snapping up 15.8 million kilos; and Brazil, taking 10 million kilos.
Pork exports mainly to Taiwan
Let us not forget pork producers! Taiwan stands out as the main destination for Paraguayan pork, claiming a staggering 83% of total exports, valued at US$18.3 million. One year ago, tariffs on pork exports to Taiwan were completely eliminated. Previously, the tariff was set at 12.5%, and the move to 0% was already expected to increase production.
In the first half of 2025, the pork sector exported a total of US$22 million, including trade with Uruguay, Brazil, and Georgia.
Poultry exports surge
Lastly, poultry exports, including meat, offal, and other products, have also taken flight. This sector brought in US$5.5 million, with products shipped to various destinations, such as Iraq, Albania, Vietnam, Angola, Georgia, and Ghana.
