The Paraguayan Supermarkets Chamber (Capasu) held a successful 25th edition of Expo Capasu, a major event showcasing the country’s mass consumption sector. The event on 11 and 12 September, 2025, included suppliers, distributors, entrepreneurs, and professionals. Expo Capasu 2025, held at the CONMEBOL Convention Centre, highlighted the strategic role of supermarkets as testing grounds for new domestically manufactured products.
The Paraguayan government has identified supermarkets as key partners in strengthening the country’s industrial capacity and promoting Paraguayan brands globally. This announcement was made by the Vice-Minister of Commerce and Services, Rodrigo Maluff, at the Expo Capasu 2025.
Government focus on export diversification
“We want to give products performing well on supermarket shelves the support they need to reach the global market,” stated Vice-Minister Maluff. He emphasised that “Paraguay has a privileged production position for over 100 million people worldwide, but these products often reach markets in a very basic form. The government aims to move towards more sophisticated export processing.”
Maluff provided examples, noting that in addition to successfully exporting beef, Paraguay should export pork and poultry proteins, preserved products, and processed foods such as pasta and baked goods. The initiative also includes strengthening traditional sectors like maize and rice through investments in productivity and technology.
“The government’s plan is centred on boosting the country’s industrial capacity. The projection is that the country can generate approximately US$5.5 billion in exports, opening new opportunities for national brands in the global market,” Maluff said.
Growth of Expo Capasu
Since its first edition with only 20 exhibitors, Expo Capasu has grown steadily to become a key event on the national business calendar, with an average of 120 exhibitors in recent years. “Expo Capasu has been instrumental in enriching and professionalising the sector, promoting the entry of world-class innovative proposals,” said Gustavo Lezcano, President of Capasu.
This year’s event, themed “25 years driving the future of retail,” provided a platform to define sector policies and actions within the context of its growth. It offered valuable market updates and strengthened networking among decision-makers.
