Paraguay continues to strengthen its international standing, climbing six positions in the 2026 Global Soft Power Index, a publication by Brand Finance. The country now ranks 78th out of 193 nations evaluated. With the new position, Paraguay consolidates its presence in the top half of the global ranking.
With a score of 36.4 points, Paraguay’s improvement reflects a sustained rise in international perception. Thanks to key indicators like reputation, governance, business climate, culture, influence, and sports.
Sports drive international projection on the Global Soft Power Index
One of the most notable gains was the “Leader in Sports” indicator in the Global Soft Power Index. Here, Paraguay advanced four positions. The result highlights the increasing importance of sport as a strategic pillar of the country’s public diplomacy and international projection. For example, in 2025, Paraguay hosted the WRC Championship, and in 2026, it is set to host the World Skate Games.
In recent years, Paraguay has increased its visibility by hosting international sporting events and regional competitions. This has strengthened its image as a reliable and capable organiser on the global stage.
Measuring global perception
The Global Soft Power Index is based on a survey of more than 150,000 respondents across more than 100 markets. The study evaluates all 193 member states of the United Nations, assessing how countries are perceived. For instance, perceptions are based on terms of influence, trust, governance, cultural appeal, business environment, and global reputation
Unlike traditional economic rankings, the index focuses on perception. Perception is a factor increasingly recognised as a critical component of competitiveness in a globalised economy.
Investment and economic impact
Paraguay’s Investment and Export Network (REDIEX) described the improvement as a sign of consolidating international credibility. According to the agency, a stronger country image enhances investor confidence and supports efforts to attract foreign direct investment and promote exports.
The upward movement in the Global Soft Power Index coincides with a period of macroeconomic stability. Also, with continued efforts to position Paraguay as an attractive investment destination. Economic openness, legal predictability, and regional competitiveness remain central to that strategy.
Global Soft Power Index and more international visibility
During 2025, Paraguay hosted a series of multilateral meetings, trade missions, and economic forums that contributed to raising its global profile. These events showcased the country’s organisational capacity, infrastructure, and security conditions.
In an increasingly competitive international environment, reputation has become a strategic asset. Furthermore, a positive global perception can translate into stronger diplomatic ties, expanded trade opportunities, and greater flows of investment and tourism.
Paraguay’s progress in the 2026 Global Soft Power Index reflects a gradual but consistent strengthening of its external image. As well as a growing ability to project trust and influence beyond its borders.
