Asunción will host the 16th Ibero-American Insurance Summit on 3 and 4 September. The summit, held at the Central Bank of Paraguay’s Institute Auditorium, will bring together over 30 leaders from various sectors including insurance, finance, regulation, and technology.
Organised by the Ibero-American Foundation Alianza del Seguro, with support from the Paraguayan government and declared of National Tourist Interest by Senatur, the summit aims to strategically reshape the insurance sector in Ibero-America. The central theme, “Is it possible to refound insurance without provoking a structural crisis?”, will guide discussions on the industry’s future in a changing global landscape.
Focus on MSMEs
A key focus of the Ibero-American Insurance Summit will be the workshop on micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which constitute 97% of Paraguay’s businesses. It will address the need for insurance solutions tailored to these MSMEs. The workshop aims to develop concrete proposals for coverage, financial education, advisory services, and sector-specific support for these businesses, traditionally excluded from insurance services.
An Insurtech workshop will also take place, featuring key players from the technology ecosystem. Discussions will centre on innovation, scalability, and regulation in insurance technology. Both workshops are expected to produce working documents to inform the summit’s main discussions, emphasising action, and practical proposals.
Ibero-American Insurance Summit key themes
The summit will cover a range of topics over two days, including the restructuring of insurance, new corporate and regulatory leadership, and the impact of artificial intelligence. Also professional ethics, distribution strategies, cultural shifts, and public perception of insurance will be covered. The role of regulators in regional stability and sustainability will also be a recurring theme.
Speakers from Paraguay, Mexico, Spain, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Uruguay, Argentina, and Brazil, as well as representatives from international financial and insurance organisations, will contribute to a comprehensive overview of the Ibero-American context.
Sustainability and social impact
The Ibero-American Foundation Alianza del Seguro is promoting this summit to align the insurance sector with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The foundation aims to foster a more inclusive, sustainable, and socially responsible industry.
Initiatives like the Green Seal, the Equality Seal, the Healthy Company Seal, and the International Program for Inclusive and Parametric Insurance reflect this forward-looking perspective, which the Ibero-American Insurance Summit in September is expected to further develop. That same month, Asunción will host Accelerating Bitcoin, Paraguay’s first Bitcoin-Only conference.
