Taiwanese Experts Highlight Paraguay’s Potential To Build Semiconductor Factories

The President of the Republic, Santiago Peña, received representatives of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute for North America, along with their delegation. These are experts in semiconductor technology who showed great interest in Paraguay’s potential to attract investments in this sector.

The meeting took place yesterday, Wednesday 23rd October, in Mburuvicha Róga. On the occasion, the President received Drs. Ming Che Wang and Ray Yang, representatives of the Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute for North America, along with their delegation.

These semiconductor technology experts showed great interest in Paraguay’s potential to attract investments in this sector.

“We emphasise that Paraguay, with clean energy, a stable economy and a strategic location, is an excellent destination for investment. We will continue working on a roadmap to strengthen our technological profile and open up new opportunities for the country,” Peña said on social media.

Meeting with the Minister of Mitic

In this context, the Minister of Information and Communication Technologies (Mitic), Gustavo Villate, also met with the Taiwanese delegation to discuss the opportunities offered by Paraguay in the installation of semiconductor factories.

The meeting allowed Paraguayan authorities to present to ITRI a detailed overview of the regional situation and the competitive advantages that the country offers to attract investments in the technology sector.

During the meeting, Minister Villate highlighted the importance of Paraguay becoming a key player in a region that is experiencing an accelerated technological transformation.

The relevance of the Becal scholarship programme and the capabilities of local universities, which are prepared to train engineers specialising in the semiconductor sector, were also discussed, a fundamental pillar to ensure the success of this project.

These actions reflect the country’s commitment to developing the talent needed to drive industry growth and create an enabling environment for technological investment.

Deepening opportunities for cooperation with Taiwan

During the visit of the Taiwanese delegation, a meeting was also held with the Minister of Industry and Commerce (MIC), Javier Giménez, to explore opportunities for cooperation between Paraguay and Taiwan in strategic areas such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence.

Taiwanese experts highlighted three key aspects for the development of the semiconductor industry in Paraguay: the abundance of clean energy, which represents a competitive advantage for the technology industry; the country’s strategic location, which facilitates access to markets such as Brazil; and the potential for diversification into alternative energies, such as the production of solar panels.

In addition, the possibility of establishing data centers taking advantage of clean energy and emerging technological infrastructure was highlighted.

Taiwanese ambassador to Paraguay, José Chih-Cheng Han, commented that the experts, although not businessmen, have a deep knowledge of the sector, which is strategic from a political and geopolitical point of view.

“We will study these opportunities carefully to land with concrete actions, whether in investment or cooperation, taking advantage of the conditions that Paraguay offers, especially in clean energy and human talent,” said Chih-Cheng Han.

With these initiatives, Paraguay strengthens its path towards consolidation as a relevant player in the semiconductor and advanced technology industry, fostering an ecosystem that encourages investment and technological development at a regional and global level.
