River Tourism in Paraguay: Minister keen to expand facilities for tourists

The Minister of Tourism, Angie Duarte, and the director of the Merchant Navy, Patricio Ortega, today made a tour of the Paraguay River in order to evaluate the feasibility of river tourism development. The tour of the authorities began in the Bay of Asunción and culminated in the port of Villeta.

On the occasion, they closely observed the current conditions of the river, as well as the port infrastructure and services available to tourists. The visit included stops in the naval prefecture of Villeta, and at the shipyard of Villa Elisa, they evaluated the opportunities and challenges associated with river tourism, together with Mayor Sergio Estigarribia.

Minister Duarte emphasized the importance of promoting river tourism as an attractive and sustainable alternative for visitors, as it allows to enjoy the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Paraguay River.

River tourism favors the development of communities, contributes to the preservation of the environment and represents a unique opportunity to diversify the tourist offer and position the country on the global map of sustainable destinations, said the head of Senatur.

For his part, director Patricio Ortega highlighted the efforts made to improve the safety and navigability of the river, while announcing new initiatives to optimise the infrastructure and guarantee a safe and pleasant tourist experience.

The Minister of Tourism undertook to continue working with authorities and tour operators on strategies that promote river tourism for the benefit of communities.
