Open call for artists and technologists at EXPYLAB 2024

For the fourth consecutive year, the EXPYLAB – Laboratory of Immersive Experiences Paraguay opens its call to artists and technologists until September 23, 2024. This project has the support of the National Secretariat for Culture, through the 2024 Culture Funds.

EXPYLAB in its 4th edition is an initiative that fuses technology and art. Its mission is to support artists and technologists, both emerging and consolidated, in the development of projects that use new immersive technologies such as Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and Extended Reality.

The main objective of EXPYLAB is to promote collaborative creation between artists from various disciplines and creative technologists, welcoming applications from urban, rural and indigenous communities throughout Paraguay.

For three weeks, the selected participants meet at the French Alliance of Asunción to work on their projects under the guidance of local and international experts in immersive technology.

On the one hand, artists from all artistic areas (writers, directors, producers, designers, musicians, sound engineers, photographers, visual artists, stage artists, illustrators, mountaineers, can apply, and of any area related to artistic creation). On the other hand, technologists from all over the country are invited (programmers, developers, technological engineers, etc.)

About the call

The call is open to Paraguayans and / or foreigners residing in Paraguay until September 23, 2024. Applications are made from www.expy.com.py.

Those selected from the interior of the country will receive support with the transfer and accommodation during the laboratory in Asunción.

As a novelty, this year EXPYLAB will be dedicated to the collective creation of stories from its genesis. Artists and technologists will form teams to create stories that can be told through the new immersive media.

In the first week, they will have theoretical and practical classes, as well as define the ideas to produce. Starting in the second week, they will develop the prototype of their projects, which they will present to a jury in a final short pitch session in the third week. Thus, the scholarships will not only be trained in immersive technologies, but will also culminate in a product that will allow them to continue developing their project after completing the laboratory.

After the final short pitch, the winners will benefit from important prizes:

  1. Itaú Foundation Award & #NEF: A trip to Bogotá, Colombia, in September 2025, to participate in the #NewMediaLab of the renowned festival #NarrarElFuturo. Includes air passage from Asunción to Bogotá, and accommodation.
