The San Lorenzo Stream mid-works

The San Lorenzo Stream Begins Its Transformation

The San Lorenzo stream has begun its transformation process, in order to become an “accessible and safe public space for the community, while implementing actions that promote sustainability and environmental protection in its entire environment”.

The main work includes the construction of a 850-meter-long reinforced concrete channel between Mariscal Estigarribia and Dr. Gaspar Rodríguez de Francia avenues, as well as the widening of the channel by 14 meters to improve the safety and stability of the area, reported the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC).

The first activities began last week. This weekend, the Minister of Public Works and Communications, Claudia Centurión, supervised the start of the works, accompanied by Pablo Adorno, coordinator of the Coordination of Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hydraulic Works Projects (Capsoh).

A groundbreaking first day

During the day led by the head of the MOPC, the mobilisation of machinery, the planning of the cleaning of the riverbed and the installation of the camp of the contracting company, Construpar SA, were verified as part of the initial tasks.

With a total investment of Gs 44,636,855,406 (approx USD 5.6million) the initiative seeks to recover the stream and transform the surroundings into a functional place for recreation and physical activity. A linear walkway, recreational areas and exercise equipment will be incorporated, providing the inhabitants of San Lorenzo with a new quality public space.

The MOPC will also carry out an environmental awareness campaign aimed at encouraging the correct disposal of waste and promoting the preservation of the riverbed and its surroundings. Through these actions, the Ministry reaffirms its commitment to the urban development of San Lorenzo, improving the quality of life of its inhabitants and promoting a cleaner and more accessible river for all.
