The charming city of San Antonio, around 12 kilometres south-east of Asunción, is once again ready to welcome food lovers to the fifth edition of the National Piracaldo Festival. This year’s edition features over 30 food exhibitors serving authentic dishes based on Paraguayan tradition. Locals and visitors will meet on Sunday, August 3, between 9:00 and 20:00 on the historic grounds of the former San Antonio Hotel.
A culinary celebration rooted in tradition
What started in 2019 as a festival of Paraguayan culinary heritage has developed into a cherished national fest. Its heart and soul are piracaldo, the iconic fish soup, served in both classic and creative variations. Expect delicious versions made with mandi’i, surubi, piranha, and even fish vori vori, all freshly cooked live by skilled local cooks.
Additionally, contestants will compete in a cooking competition featuring the best preparations. Celebrated personalities from the food and cultural sectors will judge the competition.
The festival not only fills the stomach’s hunger; it also feeds the soul with live music for a whole day. Hosting the main stage is Néstor Ló y Los Caminantes. He will be supported by a diverse range of artists including DJ Pasto, Grupo Herencia, and Refugio de Amor. The lineup continues with appearances from Brisa Vera, Lizzeth Sánchez Núñez and more. The stage will be serving up the whole range from romantic ballads to energetic sets that will have crowds on the dance floor all day long.

An affordable, family-friendly day out
The festival has been certified by the National Secretariat of Tourism (Senatur) as being of Cultural and Tourist Interest. It continues to combine tradition, music, and community. Beyond entertainment, the event also promotes sustainable tourism and supports small local businesses.
Tickets are priced at Gs. 10.000 (approximately US$1.35), making the event accessible for all. Parking is available on-site for Gs. 20.000 (approximately US$2.70), and food lovers can enjoy tasting plates starting at Gs. 10.000, with à la carte options beginning at Gs. 20.000. The venue is pet-friendly, welcoming dogs and furry companions to join the festivities.
