Tucked inside the Paseo de los Árboles Gallery in Asunción’s San Cristobal area, Amsterdam Pool Bar brings a refreshing concept to nightlife in Paraguay’s capital. The bar blends leisure, dining, and live music under one stylish roof. Amsterdam Pool Bar has three distinct spaces: A mezzanine lined with pool tables, a main indoor dining area, and an open-air terrace.
The establishment was created by a group of friends who once met weekly to play pool. “What started as a hobby among friends turned into a dream,” says owner Víctor Franco. “We wanted our own place to play, but it grew into something much bigger.”
From pool to plates
Although its name pays tribute to the laid-back culture of Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, this venue is proudly Paraguayan at heart. The kitchen has become a highlight. Its signature is the Picada Amsterdam – a shared grill platter for three. The establishment also has wood-fired pizzas, a crowd favourite, alongside hearty burgers, milanesas, and lighter options such as the Choripán (the Paraguayan hotdog).

The bar’s ambience is deliberately casual yet polished. Alternative rock, pop, and Latin hits from the 1990s and 2000s set the tone. “We wanted music for people like us, those in their thirties and forties who still love to go out but prefer a relaxed, quality place,” explains Víctor.
Live bands frequently perform Argentine rock covers, and themed events like Halloween Night feature DJs, costume contests, and prizes in both cash and drinks. With two giant screens, Amsterdam Pool Bar also hosts corporate events and sports viewings, supported by its partnership with Munich Beer.
A comfortable space for everyone
With a capacity for over 200 seated guests, the establishment can be booked for private or corporate gatherings. Visitors enjoy free Wi-Fi, ample secure parking, and a warm, attentive service.
“We treat people how we’d like to be treated,” says Karen Bernal, Victor’s wife and Amsterdam Pool Bar co-owner. “We want everyone to feel comfortable – like home, but with great food and music.”
The owners are currently developing a new lunch menu, aiming to open from 11:00 in the morning to midnight, expanding beyond their evening service that now begins at 17:00. “We already have everything ready – the recipes, the system, and the staff,” says Karen. “We just need to finalise the setup.”
The team plans to complete the Amsterdam-inspired décor soon – a nod to the city that inspired its name. “The place is beautiful as it is,” said Víctor, “but we still want to add that final touch – something that feels like Amsterdam, right here in Asunción.”
