Les Voiles: A Nautical Haven In The Heart Of Asunción

When French entrepreneur Eric Zamana opened Les Voiles in 2022, he aimed to create more than just another rooftop in Asunción. Inspired by a Sunday stroll, he envisioned a boat-themed space where locals could dine or dance. Offering fine food, nautical décor and a flexible ambience, he transformed the upper level of his building into a unique city venue.

From an empty roof to a floating dream

The idea for the terrace began with a simple problem: the building lacked a concrete slab for the top floor. Zamana solved it by constructing a lightweight iron structure with Brazilian plastic parquet resembling a boat deck. The nautical theme then developed naturally, enhanced by a ship’s wheel, a vintage engine order telegraph and carefully chosen furnishings.

For the founder, the name was equally important. Seeking a distinctive Gallic flair, he chose a phrase meaning “the sails” to give the place an identity that stood out in Paraguay’s capital. The décor, paired with panoramic views, makes it a spot where every detail encourages visitors to imagine they are dining at sea.

The Les Voiles experience for every mood

Unlike many rooftops with a fixed character, the establishment adapts to the occasion. During the week, couples and friends can enjoy a tranquil dinner. On special nights, it becomes a vibrant dance floor with live DJs, particularly during monthly retro nights or private events. A French community gathering on the last Friday of each month adds a distinctive cultural element.

This versatility also makes it a popular choice for corporate functions and private celebrations. Entirely bookable for groups of over 30 people, the terrace offers exclusivity any day of the week, with tailored menus and attentive service.

For Zamana, the key lies in making each visit memorable, whether for a romantic dinner or a spirited party lasting into the early hours.

A menu anchored in quality

The menu reflects Zamana’s dual culinary passions: Roman-style pizza and gourmet burgers. The Roman dough is left to rest for three days before baking, resulting in a thin, crisp base. Signature burgers include the “Classique” with pickled cucumber sauce, the “France” with Brie and Dijon mustard, and the “Le Voile” with Camembert, pancetta and roasted aubergine.

Beyond pizzas, all burgers and meats are cooked on the grill, adding a distinctive smoky flavour. Guests can enjoy cuts such as picanha, tomahawk and lamb rack, as well as antipasti platters with smoked chorizo, Parma ham, olives, almonds and Parmesan. Fresh salads include Caesar, Caprese and “Marina”, alongside selected vegetarian dishes and gluten-free pizzas.

Drinks, details and distinctive touches

This panoramic setting boasts a carefully curated drinks list, from Italian and Argentine wines to a growing selection of French vintages. Its cocktail menu features both classics and house creations such as the “Madame Lynch” and “Blue Hawaii”, appealing to a wide range of tastes. Whisky, cognac and gin are also available, with Zamana personally importing fine spirits from France twice a year.

A notable feature for guests is the occasional complimentary tasting: small bites or pizza slices served with their orders. For the founder, these gestures matter as much as discounts, helping the establishment stand out in a competitive hospitality scene.

Looking ahead

While the venue already enjoys strong local patronage, Zamana plans to make the top-floor space even more dynamic. Upcoming initiatives include more frequent events, enhanced promotional activities, and a balance between lively entertainment and consideration for neighbouring residents. His son Pierre, arriving at the end of September, will take the lead in developing these new ventures.

With its blend of French flair, maritime design and culinary variety, Les Voiles offers Asunción a distinctive dining destination high above the city. Evenings can be a serene escape or a lively port of call, depending on the mood. Whether savouring a quiet meal with panoramic views or dancing under the stars, each visit feels like setting sail on a memorable voyage.
