Riverfront Riffs: Rock al Puerto Hits Paraguay

Rock al Puerto makes its debut in Paraguay on May 17th at the iconic Asunción Port, promising a rich and unique cultural experience that fuses the best of indie rock with engaging art and cultural spaces.

The event will feature a diverse line-up of national and international music acts that appeal to all generations. From Dillom to Bersuit Vergarabat – celebrating 38 years this month – the festival combines the classic essence of a rock concert with a contemporary twist, offering interactive installations and spaces dedicated to visual arts and gastronomy.

With two stages surrounded by the marvellous views of the city and the Paraguay river, the festival promises to be not only a celebration of music, but a reaffirmation of what culture and social participation provide. This encounter gives a space where all voices can be heard, celebrated, and empowered.

The international bill features Las Pelotas, one of Argentina’s most enduring rock bands, bringing their signature blend of alternative rock, reggae, and introspective lyrics. Bersuit Vergarabat delivers an explosive live show with an eclectic mix of rock, cumbia, murga, and socially charged lyrics. And Dillom, known for his raw lyricism, dark humour, and genre-blending sound of trap, punk, and horrorcore, presents his latest album for the first time in Paraguay.

Also performing are 2 Minutos, pioneers of Argentinian punk rock, El Zar, known for their indie-pop elegance and Jóvenes Pordioseros, a gritty rock ‘n’ roll staple. Peces Raros, who mix electronic music with rock; and Ryan, rising with a fresh urban sound, complete the powerful international lineup.

Local rock scene

The local rock scene is well represented by Villagrán, who fuses native rhythms with hard rock, Rodas, with his introspective songwriting and folk-rock style and El Culto Casero, one of the most influential projects in Paraguay’s indie rock circuit.

The lineup is completed by Apolo el Perro, blending alternative rock with experimental sounds; Cielo Ámbar, known for their melodic pop-rock sensibility; and A Días de Júpiter, a band that explores emotional depth through powerful post-rock influences. Altogether, they add a distinctly Paraguayan touch that highlights the country’s emerging musical identity.
