H_Y_DRO Experimental: Highlighting The Importance Of Water With A Musical Touch

From being a show in 2024 at the Central Bank of Paraguay, unique artistic and educational endeavour H_Y_DRO Experimental has been reinvented for 2025. Now, all the work including four video clips, is online. The experience marries music, technology, and environmental awareness. The aim is to create a captivating and thought-provoking experience about the critical importance of water conservation without uttering a single word.

Rather than being pure video clips, Artistic Director, Paola Irún, says they are “visual chapters.” These four videos take the audience on a profound journey through the life cycle of a single drop of water.

First release

These musical chapters are developed by Sonidos de la Tierra and directed musically by Professor Willian Aguayo. The first one, named La Última Gota, or The Last Drop, was released on Wednesday, 24 September 2025. Present in the clip is Roberto ‘Chirola’ Ruiz Díaz from music group Kchiporros, who also composed the official song of the ASU2025 Games, “Somos leyenda.

The following three videos will be in collaboration with Purahéi Soul, Jazmín del Paraguay, and El Princi. The videos will all highlight other elements and facets of water and will be released soon.

What is H_Y_DRO?

At its core, H_Y_DRO seeks to highlight the critical importance of water conservation without uttering a single word. Instead, it relies on a masterful blend of musical composition, visual spectacle, and innovative instrument design to convey its powerful message.

The narrative traces the journey of a water drop from its life-giving genesis through various stages. Starting with gentle rain, then a blooming downpour, a destructive storm and flood, the threat of contamination, and the devastating impact of global warming and drought. The cycle culminates with a final, poignant drop, transformed by the preceding journey and imbued with a renewed sense of appreciation and hope for this vital natural resource.

The organisers expect to reach a wider audience by disseminating their arts and spreading their message through social media, and the online world.

Water orchestra

The true innovation of H_Y_DRO lies in its “water orchestra,” a collection of instruments meticulously crafted from accessible materials. Water is integrated as a functional component. These instruments are essential to generating the show’s distinctive soundscape.

The “Chorus of Water,” for instance, uses tubes to encapsulate a waterfall, with tuning adjusted by the placement of outlets. The “Water Accordion” creates sounds from a mini tide, while the “Water DJ” harnesses water’s energy to produce rhythmic sounds by hitting water-filled glasses. Other remarkable instruments include the “Water Drums,” which transmit electricity through water bodies, and the “Water Synthesiser,” which utilises the electrical conductivity of water in conjunction with metal membranes.

String instruments like the “Water Violin” and “Water Guitar” utilise water to tighten their strings for tuning, and the “Water Harp” generates sound through the laminar flow of water interacting with a pressure sensor. Finally, the “Double Bass Water” varies the air capacity of its mast by adapting the water volume to generate sounds.

Ultimately, the project is designed to raise environmental awareness and highlight the importance of water. Notably, the partners of H_Y_DRO include Coca-Cola, Petrobras, and the Itaú Foundation.
