Baile Libre Second Edition: A Celebration Of Asunción’s Spirit

On August 14, the second edition of Baile Libre (Free dance) will transform the Port of Asunción into a stage of creativity. Locals and visitors will unite in a spirit of liberty and enjoyment, reclaiming public spaces as sites of artistic sharing.

The event is a manifestation of a growing attempt to combine the modern urban culture and Paraguay’s rich cultural heritage. Baile Libre is not just entertainment, but a declaration of identity and belonging. The programme this month has only Paraguayan performers, affirming the event’s authenticity and local creativity emphasis. The activities will once more be hosted at the Centro Cultural del Puerto, providing the symbolic environment for this communal experience.

Vera Brothers cultural leadership

Isaías and Jeremías Vera, the Vera Brothers, are producers and DJs whose journey began with an interest in music. Raised amidst music as children, their passion solidified at university when they came across an electronic music society. They later shifted from the dance floor to the production room and began working in 2014. The Vera Brothers have since been working on being part of Asunción’s techno culture.

To the brothers, Baile Libre is more than a booking; it is a venture that they helped co-produce with Mother City, 180gr, and the National Secretariat of Culture. They wanted to produce a free, open area where art, music, and public space converge. They consider it a collective success that no single organiser owns. “It is a collective project, not just a party,” they say.

What to expect at Baile Libre

This month’s line-up promises a lively mix of disco, house, and techno with Isaías performing in the name of Vera Brothers, and with Victoria Mussi under the CI.VS name. The Vera Brothers are excited to share the same stage in such a symbolic venue.

“Asunción’s port is a symbol of history, entrance, and exit. To adorn it with performance is an act of culture,” they say. For them, it is a way to re-carve this symbolic space with sound and movement.

The line-up has 180gr, Amigos de Selessie, and Rossin Selecciones, offering different rhythms and atmospheres to the audience. There will be an art, fashion, and gastronomic fair accompanying the music, offering a complete sensory experience. The organisers remain committed to maintaining the open, free spirit that defined the first edition. Everyone is invited to attend and participate without labels or pressure.

Roots, vision, and collective energy at Baile Libre

Since May 2025, Baile Libre has established itself as one of the significant independent cultural happenings in Asunción. The first edition had over 1,800 visitors for DJing, live performances, a craft fair, and visual arts exhibitions. The success proved the appeal for open-air, open-to-all celebrations of this type. Organisers view it as a visibility platform, especially for Paraguay’s electronic and alternative music scenes.

The Vera Brothers note that Paraguayan electronic music is Paraguayan culture, deserving of the same consideration as other traditional styles. They value the organic energy transfer among performers and audience members that Baile Libre facilitates.

“It is a connection you cannot force. It happens when people feel free to be themselves,” they note. This philosophy of openness is central to the project.

Building towards the future

Mother City, initiated by the Vera Brothers, combines electronic culture and urban life to shape events that transform city landscapes into cultural hotspots. Partnering with 180gr, experts in vinyl-centric music experience, they infused Baile Libre with know-how and vision to push it forward. Together, they aim to bring it further while keeping its grassroots essence.

Organisers anticipate the second edition to pave the way for more collaborations and partnerships, for its continued growth. For them, Baile Libre is a gift to the city, an anniversary party for Asunción in art, community, and freedom. As they say, “You only need to come with the willingness to be there.”

The event will start at 4 PM and will blend music, movement, and cultural expression in the capital’s historic center. The entry is free; therefore, it becomes accessible to all who desire to enjoy its vibrant atmosphere.

Baile Libre is not the only event held in the premises of the Port of Asunción. On August 9, the Eko’ápe Feriafest was held at the park of the port.
