Don Canuto, Ex-Combatant In The Chaco War, Honoured On His 109th Birthday

In an emotional message posted on his social media, the Vice President of the Republic, Pedro Alliana, expressed his recognition and admiration for Don Canuto González Brito, a former combatant in the Chaco War, who is celebrating his 109th birthday today.

“With deep pride and emotion we celebrate the 109th birthday of Don Canuto González Brito! Former combatant of the glorious Chaco War, symbol of bravery, dedication and love for our land. Paraguay honors you, Don Canuto. Honor and eternal glory to all our heroes who forged our history,” the vice president said in his message.

Alliana’s tribute highlights the invaluable legacy of those who fought for national sovereignty during the Chaco War (1932-1935), a conflict that profoundly marked the history of Paraguay.

In this context, the Paraguayan Army paid a well-deserved tribute to one of the last ex-combatants of the Chaco War. The activity took place this Saturday at his residence in the city of Luque, in the Central department.

The longevity and vitality of Don Canuto are a living testimony of that heroic era and a source of inspiration for new generations, the Vice Presidency of the Republic said.

“The figure of Don Canuto represents all the veterans who defended Paraguay with their sacrifice and patriotism. This well-deserved recognition reaffirms the National Government’s commitment to value and remember those who have contributed to the construction of the nation.”
