As a result of joint work between various State institutions, the Tarumandymí and Primavera de Luque communities inaugurated drinking water supply services that guarantee a permanent and quality supply.
The provision was made possible by the initiative of the Ministry of Children and Adolescents, which detected the lack of this essential service due to population growth and insufficient expansion of health infrastructure.
For about twelve years, residents of both areas have received drinking water for only a few hours a day, having to take turns using it or carry it in buckets or drums from the community tap.
However, thanks to the installation of a new well, with a pumping motor, an elevated tank and the renovation of the pipe network, this problem is now a thing of the past.
It is estimated that this coordinated action benefits hundreds of families: around 57 indigenous families of the Mbya Guaraní People of the Tarumandymi Community and more than 300 in the Primavera community, representing more than 1,000 people.
During the event held in the community, the Minister of Children and Adolescents, Walter Gutiérrez, said that “the Government of Paraguay has as a priority the dignity of Paraguayan families and children, through access to vital liquid.
“This initiative arose from a visit we made to the Tarumandymí indigenous community a year ago, where they expressed to us the need for drinking water in their homes,” he said.
Gutiérrez stressed the importance of guaranteeing children’s right to water, and highlighted the coordination between institutions such as the National Environmental Sanitation Service (Senasa), the Sanitary Services Regulatory Entity (ERSSAN), the Sanitary Services Company of Paraguay (ESSAP), the Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DAPSAN) of the MOPC, the National Electricity Service (ANDE), the National Indigenous Institute (INDI), among others.
The indigenous community also celebrated the arrival of drinking water to their homes with songs, dances and expressions of gratitude to the authorities. In both localities, the celebration of Christmas and Three Kings’ Day was held early, with the delivery of toys by the Toy Bank, an initiative of the MINNA and the Office of the First Lady.
