Drinking Water Infrastructure

ESSAP Improving Drinking Water Infrastructure In San Bernardino

As part of the 2024/25 Summer Operation, the Sanitary Services Company of Paraguay (ESSAP) began the renovation of 9,000 meters of pipes in San Bernardino, with an investment of more than Gs 8 billion (US$ 1,000,000).

The aim is to improve the drinking water infrastructure in one of the most tourist-influxed areas of the country, improve the quality of life of its inhabitants and the sustainable development of the emblematic city.

The groundbreaking ceremony was presided over by the head of the institution, Luis Fernando Bernal, with the presence of the local mayor Emigdio Ruiz Díaz, representatives of the Cordillera Governorate, deputies of the department and other authorities.

The project will benefit the Sadi 1, Sadi 2, Sadi 3 and Country Club neighborhoods, where the drinking water distribution system is made up of pipes that have reached the end of their useful life and frequently break. In addition, given the increase in users in the area, the installation of larger diameter pipes is required to significantly improve water pressure during the months of greatest demand.

Improvements to impact 3,000 people in the area

The works, which are estimated to impact around 3,000 people during the peak season, include the installation of pipes to optimise the flow and pressure in the distribution network of the vital liquid, as well as the renewal of home connections, which will be replaced up to the meter box.

The construction of a new 3,000-cubic-meter reservoir in the city was also announced, which will allow for more efficient storage and distribution of water, especially during the summer season, when San Bernardino receives a large number of visitors.

ESSAP is also working with Senasa to build a deep well in the Tucanguá area, which has the capacity to supply around 6,000 people. This well represents an additional effort to reinforce the supply of drinking water in strategic sectors of the region.
