“Finca La Fe” Shines At Edda’s 2025, Paraguay’s Tony Awards Equivalent

Each year, the prestigious Edda Awards ceremony is held in Asunción to celebrate excellence in theatre. The presenting of these awards honour stage actors, actresses, and production companies for their contributions to the theatre industry. These key figures enrich the vibrant theatre scene in Paraguay’s capital. The gala ceremony at the Paraguayan-Japanese Centre was a night of celebration for many. The Edda’s 2025 had the presence of violinist Belen Romero and singer Nicole Arz, who performed “Only love can hurt like this” and other songs.

What is the Edda?

The Eddas 2025 are named after Edda de los Ríos.

The Edda’s are the equivalent of the U.S. Tony Awards. This ceremony award is named after Edda de los Ríos, stage actress, theatre teacher, and daughter of Paraguayan actors Hector and Elena Morselli. In 1962 she was named the Revelation of the Year. She was also named the Outstanding Woman of the Year by the Young Chamber of Commerce of Asunción in 1979.

The presenting of the Edda’s 2025 was the 7th edition and is organised in partnership with the Cultural Diffusor League of Asunción. An association of alternative cultural media outlets the organisation is united by the strengthening of the development of arts and entertainment in Asunción. They are partnering with Más Público, Smash, Asunción Kultural, and La Agenda de Ale of the National Radio. The aim is to promote cultural events of that genre everywhere.

Edda’s 2025

Multiple awards were presented the Edda’s 2025, in 18 categories. In these categories, there was the 6th edition of the Revelation Awards. Actress, producer, teacher and cultural manager Kiara Nicola and Director, producer and playwright Aldo Valdez, were in charge of announcing the Revelation Award of the current edition.

The award was given to Hugo Núñez. Organisers describe “his multidimensional talent and his creative vision”. The organisation also added that “he generated fresh and emotional theatrical experiences, working with both new artists and established references”.

  • Best Art Design: How To Watch A Fire.
  • Best Production: My Grade Is A Danger – Most Problematic, Most Conflictive.
  • Best Original Screenplay: Erik Gehre for Finca La Fe.
  • Best Short Work: Land.
  • Best Comedy Show: Taboo – To Be or Not to Be.
  • Best Popular Play: Where the Wind Takes Me.
  • Best Dance Play: Wounded.
  • Best Social Theatre Play: With the Smell of Rain.
  • Revelation Award: Hugo Núñez.
  • Best Drama: Philippic.
  • Best Comedy: My Degree Is a Danger – Most Problematic, Most Conflictive.
  • Honorary Award: Teresita Perosa and Blanca Navarro.
  • Best Actor in a Supporting Role: Julio Petrovich for Finca La Fe.
  • Best Actress in a Supporting Role: Rossana Bellassai for Finca La Fe.
  • Best Actor in a Leading Role: Ronald Maluf for Therapy, The Fantastic Exercise.
  • Best Actress in a Leading Role: Regina Bachero for Radojka.
  • Best Direction of a Play: Mafe Mieres for Finca La Fe.
  • Best Work: Finca La Fe.

Theatrical works in Paraguay

Asunción, Paraguay, like many other capital cities of Latin America, is a brooming scene for stage plays and theatrical works. Many genres, from traditional plays such as Le Bal to more alternative and immersive ones like Hasta Que Te Quieras are held around the capital.

Soon, in Asunción, a new style of play will make its place into the theatrical scene, making this art more accessible to a larger public.
