US$100M Paves The Way: Paraguay Transforms Rural Connectivity

A massive investment of over US$ 100 million into rural connectivity has been unveiled by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC). This investment should transform rural roads across five departments, bringing positive change to the lives of more than 200,000 Paraguayans. The initiative will pave and upgrade over 200 kilometres of vital rural roads in Caaguazú, Paraguarí, Alto Paraná, Itapúa, and Caazapá, boosting connectivity.

This investment is not just about laying down tarmac. It is about building a brighter future for rural communities. Every kilometre of paved road represents improved access to essential services like healthcare and education. It also paves the way for more efficient transport of agricultural goods, boosting the local economy and creating new jobs.

Banana Bonanza: Caaguazú’s new route

One of the key projects is the so-called “Banana Route”, a 41.6-kilometre stretch connecting Tembiaporã, Raúl Arsenio Oviedo, and José Domingo Ocampos in the dynamic Caaguazú department. This crucial artery will streamline the transport of bananas, cassava, and other vital crops, boosting the region’s agricultural prowess.

Paraguarí marks a historic milestone as workers pave the 31.5-kilometer Quyquyhó–María Antonia road. This long-awaited project will link rural communities with the country’s main highways, dramatically reducing travel times and opening access to vital services.

Alto Paraná: Progress in motion

Over in Alto Paraná, work is already underway on the O’Leary-San Cristóbal route, which will see over 62.29 kilometres of road freshly paved. This will ensure year-round access for the region’s hardworking farmers and agricultural cooperatives, true engines of the local economy.

The project also extends its reach to Itapúa, where 27.5 kilometres of vital road will connect Naranjito, Nueva Aurora, and Colonia Santa Inés to the key PY06 route. And in Caazapá, a 37.93-kilometre stretch will finally link General Higinio Morínigo and Caazapá, bringing dramatic change and significantly improving transport for dairy, meat, and fresh produce.

Rural connectivity, built to last

These are not just quick fixes; they are quality, long-term investments. Each road will feature improved geometry, modern drainage, clear signage, robust safety barriers, and top-notch safety measures. MOPC is committed to not only building roads that last, but also roads that are safe for every user.

This is not just about infrastructure; it is about building a stronger, more connected Paraguay. It is about investing in the future, and ensuring that progress reaches every corner of the nation. Recently new paved roads to ports in Itapúa were completed.
